Reminiscing about visiting Macready at the theater; describing a birthday party; telling Macready he should not do a course of lectures in the United States; condemning the press in the United States; noting, "I never knew what it was to feel disgust and contempt, 'till I travelled in America"; telling him he sent him a copy of A Christmas Carol; saying that he intends to meet Macready's steamer on its return from the United States; asking him to burn this letter.
